Baader, Wanda. "How to Actively Set Goals." Strategize Your Success. July 25, 2015

November 28, 2015. http://strategizeyoursuccess.com/how-to-actively-set-goals/.

This article focuses on how individuals should set their goals whether they are personal or job related goals. It focuses on getting out of your comfort zone and giving yourself ample yet reasonable time in order to achieve the goal.

I can strongly relate to this article because I personally struggle with getting outside of my

comfort zone. It’s important for any individual to try new things that they are not familiar with in order to grow and expand their knowledge. I have set a few goals and I am in the process of trying to achieve them. One of which is doing things that are extremely out of my comfort zone in order to gain more confidence. I also agree with the articles second point, time. It’s essential to give yourself enough time because goals are not achieved over night. As the article states, if an individual is willing to step outside of their comfort zone and give themselves enough time to attain it, there is no reason why a goal cannot be reached. Personally, I am also a strong believer of this which is why I connect with this source.

Eric, Wallner. "How to Achieve Work Life Balance." How to Achieve Work Life Balance. July 4, 2013. Accessed November 23, 2015. http://www.slideshare.net/SeanFarrell/how-to-achieve-work-life-balance?qid=72ce8753-3690-41ec-a00e-9d80ba8e56ed&v=default&b&from_search=2

This presentation was created by a student named Wallner Marc Eric and his slideshow was inspired by a TED speaker named Nigel Marsh. The main focus of this presentation is to inform individuals about how to achieve work/life balance. It can be achieved by exercising regularly, meeting new people, spending time with loved ones, take breaks for yourself, treat yourself every once in a while and adopting a healthy diet. Together all of these activities will lead to a work/life balance.

This source is important to me because throughout life people tend to lose sight of what makes them happy and continue to work at something they dislike. This presentation can educate an individual on how to find this balance in order to maintain a healthy life style. Furthermore, this presentation is very clear and easy to understand. I found this source valuable because I tend to get stressed out and bogged down by school work. This helped me understand that I personally need to find this balance in order to maintain good health. I strongly agree with activities that Wallner stated in order for work life balance to be achieved.

"How To Be A Great Mentor." Forbes. May 17, 2013. Accessed December 1, 2015.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jacquelynsmith/2013/05/17/how-to-become-a-great-mentor/.

Jacquelyn, the contributor to the article mainly focuses on the points that a great mentor is patient, and believe in the mentee personally and professionally. She also emphasizes that although being a mentor is extremely difficult, the rewards are very satisfying.

I didn’t really connect with the article on a personal level but I definitely understand why being a

great mentor is so important. Most university graduates will require a mentor when entering a new firm, someone to show and help them at the beginning. I have not had any experience with a mentor at the professional level, but I can envision myself requiring one once I enter the workforce.

"How to Develop Long-Term Focus: Staying Motivated to Achieve Distant Goals." How to

Develop Long-Term Focus. Accessed December 1, 2015. https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/long-term-focus.htm.

This article argues that there are six steps that need to be taken in order to be successful with long-term goals. The six steps are; Identify meaningful long-term goals, Write goals down, strengthen self-regulation, make time for long-term goals, stay on course and recognize process.

I know that I am probably the worst when it comes to setting goals (regardless of short and long

term). After reading through this article, I feel like I would be able to attempt another one of my goals and be successful. I agree with the six steps because without a plan a goal cannot be attained. This article has some value for me because know that I think about it, I was setting goals aimlessly and did not have a plan. Overall it had some good information for me.

Millar, Erin. "How Do I Choose the Right Program for Me? - Macleans.ca." Maclean's. May 22,

2007. Accessed November 28, 2015. http://www.macleans.ca/education/uniandcollege/how-do-i-choose-the-right-program-for-me/.

This article focuses on the many questions that high school graduates ask themselves upon entering university. The author, Erin Millar held an interview with Kate Ross, the registrar and senior director of student enrolment at Simon Fraser University. Erin asked a series of common questions and Kate gave her what she thought the most realistic response is. Overall the choice must be made by the student and they must ask themselves questions like; “do I want to be at a big or small university?”. Kate also responds as if she was in the student’s position as she deals with them everyday at work.

I believe that the majority of students who are applying to university can easily relate to this

article. Today there are so many available options for students and many may find that it can be overwhelming to make a decision.

Even today I ask myself what I want to do with my life and I still don’t know. Business is a broad field and narrowing down to a specific career is extremely difficult. I’m in business commerce at school with hopes that I will soon find out what career I would like to pursue.

"6 Tips For Better Work/Life Balance." Forbes. October 20, 2014. Accessed December 1, 2015.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/deborahlee/2014/10/20/6-tips-for-better-work-life-balance/.

This article focuses on three main points; Letting go of perfectionism, Unplug and exercise and meditate. While the presentation on slide share focused on a variety of different aspects of life this one only emphasizes three.

I sort of agree with this source but it really depends on the individual. I feel like the slide share

presentation caters more towards people with a family and this source is directed to single individuals. Although neither source is wrong in terms of foci’s.

Vest, Andrew. "How To Network The Right Way." Forbes. July 28, 2014. Accessed December

1, 2015. http://www.forbes.com/sites/theyec/2014/07/28/how-to-network-the-right-way-eight-tips/.

This is another article published by Forbes, and it’s about networking. It explains about by networking is important and how it can help and individual in the long run. It also explains that networking must be done before the connections are needed, meaning don’t network at the last minute and then ask them for a favour. The author suggests any person to follow a set of rules in order to become an expert networker. Andrew Vests suggests that the following is the key to networking; Have a plan, forget your personal agenda, never dismiss anyone as unimportant and then finally connect the dots.

Prior to reading this article I already knew how important networking is regardless of your

career. Although it is essential for me since I am a commerce student and in order to succeed in business, networking is key. This article provided me with more details about networking that I was unaware of. I agree with all of his steps except for the one that suggests to forget your personal agenda. It’s important to be flexible but accommodating every single person that you meet is impossible, but I believe in the other three.
